So much of Scotland's history and heritage is to be found just a relaxed twenty-minute drive from The Red House Hotel and Glamis Castle makes for a day to remember.
The late Queen Mother's birthplace is home to Scotland's biggest Vintage Car Rally in July and in June, hosts the Strathmore Highland Games. It is a living, breathing monument to Scottish heritage, hospitality and enjoyment for all.
As soon as you enter the grounds through the Queen Mother Gates and see the stunning towers and turrets which are nestled at the end of the drive, you can't fail to be impressed by its majesty. Steeped in rich history, the castle has evolved over the years to become a stunning architectural treasure full of vitality to this day.
Inside, each and every room has its own story. The castle's evolution and its legendary tales are brought to life by enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guides. Each painting, piece of furniture and little detail along the way are a reminder that this is not only a museum but an incredible family home which has witnessed everything you could imagine, from Royal births to being the setting for Shakespeare's Macbeth.
The gardens surrounding the castle are beautiful all year round. Walks have been created to take in a mixture of habitats which can be found in the castle's immediate vicinity, such as the formal Italian Garden, mixed woodland and Pinetum to the North East.
Around Glamis Castle, you have the opportunity to see some beautiful sights, with a wide variety of flora and fauna. Its walks include:
The Italian Garden Walk (approximately 25 minutes)
The Nature Trail Walk (approximately 25 minutes)
The Pinetum Walk (approximately 30 minutes)
The River Dean Walk (approximately 15 minutes)

I have driven past this place so many times & never been in. Well I can tell you now, that was a big mistake!!! This place is lovely. We arrived at 12, ordered, ate & left by 12.35! We didn't have a lot of time. The service was excellent, the choice was very good. The food was lovely. Best steak pie I've had (that I've not made myself). Thank you, we will be back.
Another enjoyable visit for morning coffee. The homemade shortbread was a delicious treat especially the one topped with white chocolate. Friendly helpful service.
